Group Accountant (AGA (SA) / SAIPA Accountant)

Reporting to: Financial Manager

Job Purpose: To manage the accounting and financial reporting function to provide relevant information to the business.

Location: Woodstock, Cape Town

Key Performance Areas:

1. General Ledger to trial balance

  • Drive monthly GL processing to TB for all group entities.
  • Ensure all entries are accurately captured in the GL within reporting deadlines.
  • Ensure preparation & review of all GL reconciliations within reporting deadlines.
  • Identify and correct any accounts processing deficiencies.

2. Management accounts

  • Assist in preparation of management reporting within reporting deadlines.
  • Preparation / review of applicable schedules ancillary to the reports
  • Investigate and report back on findings from monthly reporting.

3. Working capital management

  • Accounts receivable management (weekly reporting & corrective action)
  • Cash flow management (daily reporting, weekly planning & optimisation)

4. VAT

  • Ensure timely preparation and review of VAT calculations and reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely submission and payment of VAT returns.

5. Income tax

  • Assist in Income tax submission including Provisional tax.
  • Ensure any income tax queries are resolved.

6. Statutory compliance

  • Prepare GL’s, TB’s and supporting schedules for audit and address audit queries.
  • Assist in DCA Audit procedures.
  • Assist in BEE verification procedures.

7. People management

  • Five direct reports:

3 Junior Bookkeepers, 2 Cashbook Clerks

  • Manage performance and development of direct reports.

Requirements and Skills

  • BCOM Accounting or similar qualification
  • AGA (SA) registered accountant or eligible for registration
  • SAIPA/SAICA registered accountant or eligible for registration
  • 3 years’ experience in an accounting environment
  • Working knowledge of IFRS, ability to apply accounting framework and principles.
  • Working knowledge of Income Tax and VAT legislation
  • Advance competency in MS Excel
  • Experience in Accpac / Pastel
  • Keen attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Analytical thinker and problem solver
  • Proactive, responsive and deadline driven
